Grandma Harding

I remember visiting my grandma Harding quite often when I was younger. We would frequently help out at grandma and grandpa’s store on main street Taber. Grandma ran a flower shop on one side, and grandpa ran a sporting goods store on the other side. Their store was a kids treasure hunting paradise! You could find all sorts of things in the back of their store, antique toys, planes, scuba gear, old trophies, 50′s radios, you name it. It was more like discovering cool stuff in an attic of someones house then a store to me. Just blow the dust off, and it was something new to play with.

Growing up, I would still visiting grandma’s store. Instead of rummaging around in grandpa’s stuff and searching for treasure, I would help my grandma on the flower side, and ask for a few left over flowers to give to pretty girls. As long as I helped cut, and design, she would always let me take some back to Lethbridge.

Older we get, the less we seem to spend with our relatives. Its been quite some time since I’ve gone out to visit, and help out the grand folks.

My grandma just turned 75, and has been diagnosed with advanced stages of cancer through her lungs and bowels. Thanksgiving weekend, family from Calgary, Lethbridge, and Idaho came to visit. As her birthday present, we all pitched in to clean her house. It was good to have everyone together, finding treasures again in their home, old photos, radios, books and keep sakes from over the years. Just wish I was able to record all the stories I haven’t heard.
